Canada's summer peak barely moves across eras. The post-COVID era shows the weakest winter and strongest year-end, but the wider swing comes from its first year alone; without it the swing is the narrowest of any era.
What this shows: The chart plots Pre-deregulation (1970-1983), Deregulated (1984-2000), Post-9/11 (2002-2007), Post-financial-crisis (2010-2019) and Post-COVID (2022+) on a vertical axis of Quarterly index (era mean = 100).
Conditions and method
The gap between the highest and lowest quarter is 23.9 points of the era mean in the post-COVID era (2022 to 2025) and 14.1 points without its first year, 2022. The widest gap in an earlier era is 21.2 points, in the era labelled Pre-deregulation (1970-1983). The wider swing comes from 2022 alone.
