Australia: Australian vs foreign carrier share (international)
airtraffickonomics.com

Australian airlines' share of the country's international passengers held near two-fifths until the late nineties, fell to about a third by the early two-thousands and has changed little since, apart from a pandemic dip.

What this shows: The chart covers 1985 to 2025. It plots Australian Carriers and Foreign Carriers on a vertical axis of Share of international passengers (%). Latest values: Australian Carriers 32.5; Foreign Carriers 67.5.

Conditions and method

Australian carriers are the airlines whose home registration is Australia, identified by the operator name as BITRE (Australia’s transport statistics bureau) lists it. An airline based elsewhere that shares a brand name with one of them counts as foreign: Jetstar Asia, Scoot Tigerair, Tiger Airways, Tigerair, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Virgin Samoa.

The 2025 point covers January to October only.
